, - a Venzke Breaks Own Mark In Winning "Y" Marathon Quaker City Entry Cops . First; Reading High Runners Given Team Trophy Going into an early lead and set ting a hot pace for the three miles, Eugene F. Venzke, the lone entry of Philadeplhia, finished first in the 10th annual Thanksgiving Day marathon held here yesterday under the auspices of the Y. M. u. A. Covering the rugged course in 15 minutes and 30 seconds, the Meadow - brook harrier, established a new record for the local Y hill and dale run, smashing his - own mark of 16 minutes and 13 seconds' made in winning the 1926 turkey day , race. Elmer B. Humma, of the Lafayette college cross - country team, last year's winner, finished second to Venzke with Samuel Matthews, of the Reading High team, third, being clocked in 16 minutes 57 seconds and 17 minutes, 7 seconds, respeectively. The Reading High cross - country team won the team - scoring cup, with a total of 15 points, with the Reading Y. M. O. A. harriers, second, and t.hp.
