Anything went, And this year's .Tri-Valley \Vest league it will be jiisl as wild. l|' .shapes up to be a no-holds barfed, anything goes sort of race. .From the pre-season reports, iHooks like .strictly a four-team race, But the other two teams shouldn't be counted' out before the season starts. They could not only pull sonic 'major upsets upsets during the year, but just may end up .right up near the top in the thick of things, Rigljt no.w it looks like Milford,. Milford,. Laurens, Ml. Upton and Gilbertsville will be the four teams to contend with. But don't count out Cherry Valley and South New Berlin. Gilbertsville, the defending champion, rode .home to. a. 10-0 mark jn the league 'last year and wejit 15-2 overall. Its only losses came in a non-leaguer to Morris and in the Section 4 Class .D final to Draper of Schene'vus. Tins season's outlook for Gilbertsville Gilbertsville is not as bright, but it still shapes up good. Coach Tom Meers has no starters left from, last year's champion, but he does have three men. who were on the varsity. The trio is G-0 forward Bruce Hopkins, 5-10 forward Kent Ho'yt, along with guard Tom Miller. But Meers has six key men up from the' junior varsity varsity squad that are expected to see lots of action. Leading the parade will be forwards Greg Williams, 5-11, and Steve Foster, 5-11. Also up are guards Andy Reuss. Jim Jackson, Ron Jensen and Gordy Gordy Richards. "We can be summed up in one word," Meers said, "And that is inexperienced. We have a lot of good stuff. We're small and have great, spirit. And that's good. /"All the teams in the league look good. All o£ them are bigger bigger than we are. And they alt have more experience. But we don't expect to be on the bottom." bottom." + * * LAURENS COACH Pat Grasso Grasso has three starters back from ' last year's Leopard team that finished 8-2 behind Gilbertsville. Returning starters are 6-3 center Dave Bering, 5-8 guard John Isler and 5-10 Al Anderson. Anderson. But Grasso also had guard Gary Smith and center Wes Boyea who were on the varsity last season. Laurens also has three men who were on the JVs last season season and w.ill be heavily counted upon this year. The trio is Gordy Emerson, 6-1 center Bill Fink and 5-9 Bill Becker. "Our offense is not too bad," Grasso said. "All but Smith played football, The rest .are still working the football nius- cles out. We're really not as advanced as we should be. "But they still look pretty good. Bering should help us a lot on the boards. I expect a lot of scoring from Anderson. In the league it looks like Milford Milford will be very powerful. But we'll have to wait and see we will do."" » * * MILFORD, which went 4-0 in the league last year, has seven men bacK from the varsity.
