Eso Naranche of Butte, killed in action in the North African area. Referring to Naranche as "a former student and friend of mine at Montana State university. . . . a real American boy," Mansfield said his generosity, kindness and understanding will always be remembered. "Eso," he said, "came up the hard way. He worked In the Butte mines to finance his education and cverylhlng he received he earned himself. While Butte claims him as her son, Monlana honors him also. We are proud of Eso; we are sad that he is no longer with us, and we salute him for Ills courage, his sacrifice and his fine Americanism." Mansfield had reprinted in the congressional record an account from the Butte, Montana, Standard which said that Naranche in his first engagement "displayed courage and leadership, success- f u l l y leading his men from Irap designed by the enemy."
