ask- to of Three Men Wounded in Gun Battle at Columbia COLUMBIA, Mo.,' May 5--(AP) --Charley Morris, 44-year-old res- taurant proprietor, was critically shot and two policemen were wounded in a gun battle here today after officers sought to ques- tion Morris. Charles Reed, 25, one of the ficers, said Morris leveled a 12- gauge shotgun at the police car which he and Officer Frank Steckdaub were riding. Reed was shot in the head and shoulders. Steckdaub, 41, driver of the received only minor wounds. Morris was in critical condition with a .38 caliber police pistol bullet in his abdomen. Steckdaub said Morris shouted "Don't bother me"' and then open- ed fire as the officers drove up the curb to question him about shotgun. Steckdaub said he drew his tol and fired twice at Morris. one of the bullets took effect. The shooting took place near the Morris home, where the offi- cers had been summoned by an anonymous telephone call.
