the war lords of Europe failed to heed the pleas of the Pope for a Christmas truce, many regiments on both sides did so. German and English soldiers ceased firing, left their trenches and inter-mingled, inter-mingled, inter-mingled, exchanging cigarets, cigars, cigars, sweetmeats and stories. Many of tbe Germans could speak English and said they had lived in or had worked in England before the war. American rag-time rag-time rag-time tunes, national anthems anthems and other music were sung by the hostile armies who that day walked walked together as friends.
