Landis Eugene Himes was born in Union Township, an what is now the Coder farm, Jan. 9, 1875. He was a son of Levi Himes and Rebecca (Robley) Himes, and he was united in marriage to Mrs. Nettie (Henderson)' (Henderson)' Dell on March 7, 1901. He had been a resident of the Mapleton area all his life. Mr. Himes started his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company on April 18, 1898, and spent eight years working out of Pittsburgh before transferring to Altoona. He retired as an engineer engineer on the Pittsburgh Division in 1940. At the time Mapleton Borough Council purchased the water works from the late I. Newton Swope, Mr. Himes was a member of council. He later served two terms as a member of the Mapleton Mapleton Borough 'Water Commission. Mr. Himes was a member of Washington Camp No. 59, P. O. S. of A. of Mapleton. -He joined the patriotic organization in 1895 —eight years after it was founded. founded. He was one of the few persons in the state who had maintained a continuous membership membership for .close to 60 years. He was also a member of the Methodist Church of Mapleton, the Brotherhood of Engineers and Firemen, and the Mapleton Lions Club. ! He is survived by his wife and one step-daughter, Mrs. Earl, Wagner of Mapleton. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Lysle Wagner of Erie and Mrs. Walter Heaster of Mount Union. Four great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother survive: Mrs. Carrie Wilson of Braddock, Mrs. Mattie Chilcote and John Himes, both of Mapleton. Funeral services will be held at the Clark funeral home in Mount Union, on Saturday, July 17, at 2:30 p. m., in charge of his pastor, the Rev. James A. Farrar.
