EXTEXSIOX SERVICE NOTES A drainage expert from the United States department of agricultural will he Vermont shortly to cooperate w'ith the Extension Service of the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College drainage demonstration work. F. E. Shafer, senior drainage engineer the bureau of public roads, who was here last year for several weeks' work, during which time he surveyed about 30 areas in 11 counties in the State, nearly of which were small areas on farms whose owners requested that such work done, will return this year. After the surveys are made, Mr. Shafer prepares very careful blueprints of the areas, with suggestions regarding tne laying of the tile, such as size of the tile, depth at which it should be laid, probable cost, etc. Copies of these blue prints are placed with the Extension Service, and sent to the man on whose place the survey is made. Mr. Shafer will probably be ir Vermont this year for a month or six weeks, as a number of the county agents h$-e h$-e already filed with the Extension Service several requests for his services their counties.
