Four Named to Planters Bank Board Four widely known Opelousas business and professional men have been elected to the board of directors of the Planters Trust & Savings Bank of Opelousas, according to bank president Leon K. Stiel. The four are Jerry E. Chauvin, men's clothing store owner; Dr. George W. Prather, pediatrician; John M. Rabalais, owner of an electronics and air-conditioning parts business, and John R. Thistlethwaite, newspaper consultant, founder and former editor-publisher of the Daily World. "These board members reflect the confidence of the community in the Planters bank and will add to its continued strength and growth," Stiel said. Stiel, who assumed the presidency of the banking facility on June 15, added that "the warm welcome extended me, and the kind comments about the Planters Bank, are gratifying." The four new directors were elected to the bank board effective last Monday, Stiel reported. "These men will materially add to a board already representing a broad cross-section of the community," Stiel said. Chauvin Is Native Clothier Chauvin is a native of Opelousas, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Chauvin. Besides his business interests, he operates a farm near Leon-ville. Chauvin, a graduate of Opelousas High, attended LSU, interrupting his college studies to join the U. S. Navy. Upon returning from service he joined his father in the clothing store business, becoming a partner shortly thereafter. Chauvin is active in the Knights of Columbus and the OHS Boosters Club. He is married to the former Geraldine Joubert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George U. Joubert of Lawtell, and they have four children, three sons and a daughter. Prather Is Specialist Dr. Prather, a native of St. Peters burg, Fla., has been engaged in the practice of pediatrics in Opelousas for the past 24 years. He was graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine, and interned at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Dr. Prather served in the U. S. Air Force as a flight surgeon, following which he was a resident physician in pediatrics at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society, Phi Chi fraternity, the St. Landry Parish and Louisiana State Medical Societies, and the American Medical Association. He is on the staff at Opelousas General Hospital, where he has served as chief of staff. He is a member of Indian Hills Country Club and Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
