"I have a very fond memory of him. He was younger than I, and he was always little brother. But he was quite a soldier." Rue recalled how he tried to get his brother to come with him when he was transferred to a prison camp in Japan. "He said he wanted to take his chances in the Philippines," Rue said. "We were separated then and I never did get to see him again." Insco Rue of Harrodsburg accepted accepted a posthumous Bronze Star for his brother, Arch. It was a day for both sorrow and joy, but mostly joy as the veterans embraced each other, snapped dozens of photographs and reminisced over cake and punch. It was a day for families, too: for gray-haired gray-haired gray-haired wives remembering remembering the day their husband or sweetheart came home from war, and for sons and daughters with their own young children honoring a relative's heroic past. But perhaps one of the strongest bonds was between the veterans themselves. Charles Quinn, who came from Salinas, Calif. the farthest of any veteran to receive his medal, said there are no words to describe that bond. Quinn, a jaunty, jaunty, gregarious man with a neatly-trimmed neatly-trimmed neatly-trimmed white beard, faltered as he tried to speak of it. "It's close," he said, his eyes filling with tears. One of his war buddies, Grover C. Brummett of Louisville, was standing nearby and took over answering for him. "I think it's as close as a brother and sister could ever be." "Or a mother and her baby." added Quinn softly. In addition to the men mentioned mentioned above, others who received the Bronze Star Sunday included: William C. Alford, Ithaca, N.Y,; Elmer J. Bensing Jr., Louisville; Patrick F. Boone, Leitchfield; Johnnie Bottoms (accepted by his widow, Anna M. Bottoms, Richmond); Richmond); Grover C. Brummett, Louisville; George E.
