Earl L, Ferris, Purdue Athletic Assistant, Dies STAR STATE REPORT West Lafayette, Ind. Earl L. Ferris, 61 years old, administrative assistant in the Purdue University athletic department, died yesterday in his home here. Born at Greenfield, Mr. Ferris was graduated from Purdue in 1936 and coached for seven years at Crown Point, Liberty and Peru high schools. He coached football, basketball and track. Mr. Ferris joined the Purdue staff in 1943 as an assistant professor in physical education. In 1962 he was appointed to his present job of counseling the university's athletes. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Hippensteel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Helen Ferris, and a brother, Hobart Ferris of Brownwood, Tex.
