BANK THIEF CAUGHT BY UN INDICTED - Total of 36 True Bills Returned by U.S. Grand ' ' ' Jury. , William R. Evans, notorious tank sneak thief, who snatched $1665 from a window in the United Bank & Trust Co. last April 10, was charged with entering the bank with intent to steal and with stealing the money, in two counts of an indictment returned today by a federal grand jury. The March term grand jury returned 36 indictments, most of them routine, and made its final treport to United States District ;Judge George H. Moore. The jury was discharged, and there will be 710 sitting of a regular federal .grand jury here until next October. Evans, who has been Involved 4n bank thefts totaling almost a -million dollars, was pursued from .the bank and caught by Miss Audrey Lorenzen, a teller, who aw him take the money. He is 53 years old and has serv ed terms tin Leavenworth, Sing Sing and ofher prisons. His technique is lhat of a "stickman." a term derived from occasional use of a stick tipped with adhesive with which to draw currency within reach.
