M Tourney Scores Class A 1 rs. DeSchevner Wins Skate Title Michigan's speed skating season came to an end Satur day night at Gordie Howe Hockeyland with the crowning of indoor state champions. For the first time in recent memory Jeanne Omelenchuk was not a winner. The Detroit art teacher and former Olympian arrived for the meet, warmed up and then retired to the sidelines to watch without explanation. IT WAS not known why she decided not to skate, but Barbara Barbara Marchetti DeSchepper, one of the state's all-time all-time all-time great indoor indoor skaters, was entered in her first meet in eight years. Mrs. DeSchepper, who now has two young sons skating, raced away with the senior women's title with a perfect 20 points. Kay Gayczynski and Beverly Shomo were her only competitors. Tom Augustitus, a six-time six-time six-time outdoor state champion, added the indoor title to his outdoor crown barely edging Mike Carey, 14-12. 14-12. 14-12. Bay City's Roger Cady was a close third with 12 points. Thus the three-month three-month three-month season came to a close. It was a great year both in Michigan and Europe where Terry McDer- McDer- mott, one of the Michigan graduates, won the United State's only gold! medal in the winter Olympics.
