«f their methods and progress attained/ FORTIETH REUNION, Class ot 1855 of Went Point Moot Today'. —Famous Men. West Point, N. Y., June 12.—The class* of 1855 of the United States Military, academy held its fortieth reunion here- today. All of the surviving members, many of whom have contributed mate-! rlally to the history of the Country, 1 were present. . ' Of the seventy-eight cadets w;ho en- 'tered the academy with this class, only, thirty-four graduated with it. Four others, however, including General Forsyth, now commanding in Califorin, nia, secured their first commissions later. Of the living, General Ruggles, adjutant general of the army,-Colonel 1 Beck and Colonel Bennett alone remain in active service. General ComJ stock and Colonel Elliott of the engineers have recently retired, and Generals Merrill and Averill of the cavalry! and Colonels Lazelle and Avery have! been for some time on the retired listJ Five members are in civil life, including the distinguished union generals,'Gregg, Webb and Turner, also Francis T.
