Tuesday, November 9,1976 Story Of Lady Who Mode Dream Come True This Is the story of a lady who made her dream come true, i Thirty years ago, after Lady Ethel had been on the faculty of McQueen's School of Beauty Culture in Tallahassee and Reeling's Academy in Pensacola, it became evident to her that establishing her dream (a school of cosmetology) should be done In Panama City, where her people might get the benlflt. Her dream was a school for her people, founded on faith in God, prayer and the ability to do a scientific job in cosmetology, and all through the years, regardless of the size of the classes. This has always been the basic background of the institute. The first commencement was held at St. John Baptist Church pastored by the Rev. T. J. Jones. The commencement address was delivered by the Rev. R. L. McCleod of Faith Temple. The first anniversary was held at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church. The Rev. T. J. Johnson, pastor and Professor Calvin C. Washington of Rosenwald High School rendered the address. And so, Lady Ethel's dream had come true. In 1949 Professor William M. Phoenix, a licensed Instructor and hair stylist came to Panama City to coordinate his halrstyllng ability and cultural attributes. Of course his superb ability as a master musician also added dignity and m culture to the Lady Ethel School, as well as to the entire community. m 1950 Lady Ethel and Mrs. Janle Reddlck, public relations manager, obtained approval from the Veteran's Administration to train under the G.L Bill of Rights. At that time, this School of Cosmetology was the only one qualified In this field to train veterans. In May 1960, the Lady Ethel Beauty School presented Hair Style Fashion and Dance Review In the City Auditorium. This was a first for Panama City. During the 30 years that the Lady Ethel Beauty College has been serving the community, hundreds of students have graduated from the academy and they LADY ETHEL TELLING ABOUT HER SCHOOL LADY ETHEL.THE LADY WITH THE DREAM |f »»»»»»»»»»»» are scattered all over the world. Lady Ethel beams with pride as she says, "And you know, they are all doing well and I am so very proud." Lady Ethel has been a very strong figure In her community as an excellent business woman and civic leader. Her school Is approved by the State Board of Cosmetology. She works with the students in securing Jobs for them and she also provides them transportation with her cab service. The Lady Ethel College is a member of the Supreme Research In- stltue Unit No. 4 of the Orange Blossom Cosmetology Association (O.B.C.A.), a state organization for continuing education. In conjunction with the college there Is the Lady Ethel Beauty Salon located next door to the college. Here, students are given practical training and It Is an excellent outlet for their talents. This lady — Lady Ethel — has been a great contributor to her people over the years, and her work Is continuing to grow. Some of her present students are Christine Jackson of Chicago, 111., Sharon Cobb of Milton, and Trudy Rogers of Panama City. Among the Instructors are Laura Johnson, Janle Reddlck and Lady Ethel, the owner. There are some openings at the college now and anyone who Is Interested In this profession can find what they need In the Lady Ethel Beauty School at Cove Boulevard. Commissioners' Bonds Oloyed The Bay County Board of County Commissioners met In special session at the courthouse annex Monday morning to approve the public official bonds of the newly-elected commis- sloneis.
