L e t t e r s Market Removal Protest Editor of The Bee^Sir: They are trying to- move the free market and want to limit it-to producers only. · I worked that free market for 25 years until two years ago. I had a .poultry stand. I bought my poultry at the p o u l farms, and so do-five or six more. All of that -money is spent, here, so what is the difference? Furthermore, the hucksters buy local stuff. They do not have it shipped in like some of the stores. A- small farmer -cannot sell anything to -them. Some time ago I had some early plums. I sold six lugs week ^and- the next week the stores did not want any more lor plums had been shipped in. Lots of the hucksters buy their fruit from small farmers who bring their produce 'in in the morning. If they intend to have only producers, it is going to be "a flop. If they .move it only two -blocks it will be the same. Why do people buy so extensively at the market? Be- caiuse there is a variety- and it is fresh. People come from all over to buy. If they move the market the only ones who will gain will be the .'big stores. They make enough money already. The bus company would lose, TOO. Half of the hucksters are past middle age and cannot get work. Thev might pick- grapes and cotton but that, will not keep them the year around. The. only way .they might solve the situation is. to extend the market 40 feet into the park and put in a nice fence. The side of the park would have a nicer a'ppearance and it would be better for all concerned. "Live and let live. GEORGE D. OLIWIEN. Fresno. . of a popular to one on hanging the a the a'
