Clyde's Monty Bechard (36) takes full advantage of the Blue Jays' single wing offense by letting Aaron Begnoche (24) and Dennis Price (59) moved into position for key blocks on Sylvan Unified's John Naegele (dark jer- sey at center) and Randy Shroeder (far right). Hope offense disappears in 14-0 playoff loss to KSD GYPSUM - Hope couldn't get its offense untracked here Tuesday night in a Class 1A District playoff game as Olathe-Kansas School for the Deaf blanked the Lions, 14-0, at Southeast of Saline stadium. KSD, going to the airways for most of its yardage, scored just before halftime and just before the end of the third quarter to end Hope's season with an 8-2 record. The Jackrabbits will advance to Saturday's Regional game with a 9-1 record. Neither team was able to mount a sustained drive during the first two quarters before KSD took over the foot- ball on its own 35-yard line late in the first half. The Jackrabbits moved the ball 65 yards in eight plays with the big yardage coming on passes of 23 yards from Statistics Hope First downs Net yards rushing Net yards passing Passes attempted Passes completed Intercepted by Fumbles lost Punts average Penalties 6 98 35 18 4 2 1 2-24 3-25 KSD 7 80 140 15 7 3 2 5-21.2 6-60 Walter Ripley to Scott Thompson and 22 yards to Gene McCallum. Kevin Miller scored the touchdown on a one-yard run with 40 seconds remaining in the half. After the Jackrabbits fielded a Hope punt at their 35 in the third quarter, KSD marched all the way downfield to a first and goal at the Hope three. Three plays and a penalty followed by an incomplete pass gave the Lions .the ball on their own six. Hope was unable to move the ball and a 21-yard punt gave KSD a first down on Hope's 35. Five plays later the Jackrabbits had the final score of the night — a 24-yard pass from Ripley to McCallum with Ripley passing to Scott Thompson for the conversion. Hope also took to the airways in the fourth quarter — a period that saw turnover after turnover. There were a total of five fumbles — two of them were lost — in the final quarter. Hope had six turnovers in the game and could manage only 133 yards of total offense, while KSD had 220 yards of total offense. • • III III III lil III it IB
