James Irwin of Duncansville, retired stone quarry worker and the last survivor survivor of the Civil war residing within that borough, is being felicitated today today by his many friends on tho occasion occasion of the 84th anniversary of his birth, which is being quietly observed in his Fourth avenue home, with no special event planned to mark the passing of the day. Although nimble in mind as his 84th milestone is attained, Mr. Irwln's nimbleness in body is marred by a leg injury sustained many years ago while engaged at the hazardous occupation of quarryman hi one of the plants of the American Lime and Limestone company In the Ganlster section, where he resided for a number of years until he retired some years, ago a resident of Duncans- who was a member of company H, 110th regiment, Pennsylvania Pennsylvania volunteers, during the Civil war and saw much hard service in that conflict, has outlived every other member member of his company^ it is-said. While his post-war injury gives him considerable considerable pain at all times, he is not disabled by it and is able to make his daily rounds of the business section of the town, several blocks from his home, and look after Ills garden and duties about his residence. While Mr. Irwin, in addition to be ing showered with congratulations and hearty wishes for many more years of activity, received numerous birthday gifts and remembrances during tho day, a birthday token received a few days ago was probably received most gratefully.
