Monday, April 17, 1961 Montgomery Farmer Discusses The NFO (Concluded from Page 5) the tremendous boost to business wHl have its affect, not only in this community but throughout the whole nation and the world. The five or six million people, presently unemployed, will have jobs and the increased business will enable enable the whole industrial empire to replace its obsolete equipment and loWer the cost of industrial products artti food will be lowered. This will not only create a greater demand heir in our country, but will begin td open up the world market which has been practically closed to America. America. not only for farm products but indlustrial products as well, because of the high cost of production in oiir country and the lower earnings of foreign labor. Along with this will be a great boost in the "gross national product” which will increase government revenue, and pave the way for reduced reduced tax rates. The “welfare state” will become unnecessary, and government government spending can be reduced, which will result in more tax cuts. The result of these tax cuts will leave more money for consumer goods and keep the economy rolling. The agricultural giant of America hfts not been effective and has not contributed its share to bringing our economic system into balance. It ha* nlrt been able to protect itself afainst the powers of big business, big labor, etc. The N. F. O, is the only means by which agriculture can e**st among these giants and still maintain the family sited farm. The men and women of the N F. O. have dedicated themselves to tHts courageous and historic movement. movement. They fully realize that it wten’t be all smooth sailing An institution institution that has been in effect as l<*ig as our present outmoded marketing marketing System has developed long rdbts, and will not be easily dis- lddged. Nevertheless, the agricultural agricultural revolution is on and it can n© more be stopped than progress can be stepped.
