- - FRANCIS E. COMMINGS Funeral services for Francis E. Commings, aged 74, for more than half a century a jeweler of this city, who died Friday evening at his home, 14 North Fourth street, will be held to - morrow morning at the residence at 10.30 o'clock. Burial will be made in the Harrlsburg Cemetery. Francis Emra Commings was one of the city's oldest jewelers and died at 7.30 o'clock Friday evening, following following a month's illness. He was born at Holland Hill, Bradford county, September 1, 1846, and came to this city at the age of 17. Mr. Commings served his apprenticeship of live years with his brother and then went into business for himself at 411 Va Market street. This was in 1868, and he remained at this location location for thirty - three years. Later, In 1901, he opened a branch store at his home and, with ' the Market street store, was proprietor of the two places for over four years, i Several well - known men learned their trade under Mr. Commings. He became well known throughout the State during his fifty - eight years" in the jewelry business. Mr. Commings was one of the charter members ;of the Heptasophs and the Patriotic Sons of America. He was the son of Harvey" and Almira Commings, and had resided at his late address for more than forty - eight years. Mr. Commings is survived by. his wife, Ella Wolfinger Commings, a daughter of the late Levi ' and Elizabeth Wolfinger; two sons, Charles B. Commings and Burton Burton B. - Commings, .this city; one brother, Alfred B. Commings, of Reading; two grandchildren, C. Francis Commings, of this city, and Mrs. J. C. Court, of Brooklyn, N. Y. '
