Calvary Methodist Church, Monday evening February 1st at tho home of Mrs. Jones. A brief business meeting-was held after which a surprise miscellaneous shower shower was given honoring Mrs. Arperd John Olah, who prior to her marriage was Miss Frances Bolsscau, a member of the circle. Mrs. Olah received a Valentin* which led her on a treasure treasure hunt of many lovely gifts. The guests were invited into the dining room where a delicious salad course was served. .The center piece having a heart shaped alter of red and white under which stood a mlnature bride and groom on a reflecting mirror surrounded surrounded with tall red candles. Feb. 4.—(/pj— Lily Pons matched the high notes of exotic arias with the classic steps of a ballet ballet dancer to inject new life today into customarily staid opera. Tile petite opera star had the role of wicked sorceress i iiRimsky-Kor- sakow's 30-year-old opera, "Le Coq d'Or" (The Golden Cockerel). Today's performance marked the first time in the United States an artist essayed the dual task of sing- Ing and dancing in this role. "Ah! I enjoy the part," Miss Pons said. "The music, it is wonderful, and the dancing—. There is something different. People want to see-action with music now. and this role, perhaps, perhaps, may be a new 'departure for opera.", Miss Pons studied for weeks the role—training to a fine point in gymnastics gymnastics to make breathing easy, while she worked o'v the music and learned the steps under Michael Fokine, the ballet master.
