4 Witnesses Testify In Hospital Case W O O D R I V E R.—Four witnesses were heard and one deposition was taken in the Dr. Bernard Apanel-Dr. Jack Dayan case during a meeting of Wood River Township Hospital directors Tuesday night. The hearings before the hos pital board involved efforts of the two Wood River physicians to avert being removed from the hospital's associate medical staff. Letters to the two physicians in which the charges against them were listed stated that the hearings would be private and the public was barred. Testifying at the Tuesday night session were Martin Langehaug, administrator of the hospital; Mrs. Isabel McBride, secretary of the hospital board; Dr. W. V Roberson, Wood River, a mem ber of the hospital's active med' ical staff; and Dr. Apanel. Dr Dayan was in the building but was not placed on the stand. A deposition involving a statement which was construed By attorneys for Drs. Apanel and Dayan to have bearing on the case was taken from George Lcighty, a reporter for the Alton Telegraph, who appeared as an individual and not as a representative of the newspaper. The appearance was in response to a .formal summons to give deposition and was issued by attorneys for the two doctors by authority of Madison County Circuit Court by virtue of the "right of discovery" under the Civil Practice Act and Supreme Court Rule 19. The summons was honored on advice of an attorney. The meeting lasted until midnight and, upon adjournment Harold Rice, chairman of the hospital board, stated that the hearings would be continued un til further notice. Attorneys representing the hospital board were Francis J. Manning of Wood River and Charles O'Brien, attorney for the Ulinoi! Hospital Association. Presen for Drs.
