Illness Fatal To Admiral, 75 VALLEJO, Calif., May 30 tfP) — Rear Admiral "William R . Shoemaker, 75, who directed the Navy'c battleship convoys for United States troop ships in the World War, died at the Mare Island Navy yard hos pital here today. Admiral Shoemaker directed the convoy service as chief of staff of the Navy's bureau of navigation. After the World AVar he was awarded the distinguished service cross and Navy cross. Since his retirement In 1929, Admiral Shoemaker had lived in San Francisco. He had been ill in the Mare Island hospital for about a year. Surviving are a son, W. R, Shoemaker, Vancouver, Wash, and two daughters, Mrs. Alexander Hepler, Seattle, and Mrs. Arthur Davis, Washington, D. C.
