Testimony Given in Murder Trial SAN LUIS OBISPO (UPI) Joseph D. Tregeaele confessed killing Ronald 'Paytpn, a sheriff's lieutenant testified at Tregeagle's murder trial Thursday. Tregeagle, 23, Provo, Utah, is charged with knifing Payton to death last Jan. 7. Payton, 17, was stabbed three times in the chest and his throat slashed. The prosecution rested its case Thursday after the testimony of Lt. Tim Shorten, who said Tregeagle confessed the murder to him. Shorten said Tregeagle was hazy on details of the killing, but recalled dragging Payton's body from his car and dumping it near Morro Bay the night of the slaying. Earlier in the trial, a friend of Tregeagle, Keith Colledge, 17, testified that Tregeagle told him he was going to kill Payton because Payton knew too much about mail robberies allegedly committed or planned by Tregeagle on the mail truck Tregeagle drove between 'Oakland and San Luis Obispo.
