Provo 13 "Since 1919 when Provo Post 13, American Legion was organized, the members have carried out programs of patriotism and civic development in the community. These programs have remained quite constant down through the years to the present, and hopefully will be carried out in the years to come. The post now carries the name of Dean Mendenhall, a Provo soldier who gave his life for his country in World War 11. Post 13 has programs to honor the memory of deceased veterans, to aid living veterans and their families whereever possible and to encourage Americanism with essay contests and citizenship programs in schools. Civic leadership ranges from the development of Harmon Park and sponsorship of Fourth of July programs in former years to the annual public Flag Day program on June 14 each year, and Boys State and Americanism programs in more recent years up to and including the present. Robert A. Ogle is the present Post 13 Commander, and the other officers this year are as follows: Other officers are Vaughn Drury, first vice commander; Spencer C. Heiner, second vice ROBERT A. OGLE commander; J. Bruce Clark, adjutant; Frank Van Wagenen, chaplain; Troy Mott, finance officer; Mr. Heiner, service officer; N. LaVerl Christensen, historian; George S. Ballif, judge advocate; Ed Shipman, sergeant - at - arms; Dallis A. Christensen, Americanism chairman; Kenneth Balser, athletic officer, and Orvil Singleton, honor guard.
