Howard Sparks Elected GrandKnigkt at Wood River Jaycee League To Begin Play "At Wood River WOOD RIVER — Three more softball teams are needed to round out the 8-leam league being sponsored by Wood River Township Jaycees and the city playground department. The league is for boys, 9 to 14 years of age. Play will get under way Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. with two games scheduled at Memorial athletic field. All games will be played on Tuesday arid Thursday nights. Regulation softball will be played except that the .pitcher's mound will be.moved in to 38 feet instead of the regular 46. Teams entered so far are Roxana, South Roxana, Wood River G-Men No. 1, Wood River G-Men No. 2, and Wood River Moose. Phllatheas Meet WWOD RIVER — Mrs. Henry Stormer, 159 Penning avenue was hostess to the Philathea Class of the First Baptist 'Church Thursday WOOD RIVER — The Wood River council of the Knights of Co- umbus -Thursday night elected: A. Howard Sparks, a painter at the Sinclair refinery, as grand knight. He succeeds Ralph Henkhaus, also of Wood River. Officers will assume their duties on July 1. They aro to be installed by the district deputy at a date which will be announced. Other new officers are: Raymond Ringering, deputy grand knight; Ross Faulkner, chancellor; Bernard Corrigan, recording secretary; Leonard Leritz, treasurer; William Corrigan, advocate; William Walsh, warden; Leo Militello, inside guard; Steven Toth, outside guard and F. J. Manning, trustee for three years. Henkhaus was elected delegate to the state convention. Jack Harmon will be alternate with Manning being an alternate to Harmon. A report on the recent state convention at Springfield was given by Manning. Sparks conducted the business session in the absence of Henkhaus who is vacationing. On Sunday, June 29, members of the'v council will receive corporate communion at the 8:30 a.m. mass at St. Bernard's Church.
