Birns death prelude to gang war? CLEVELAND (AP) - The blast that tore apart the body of racketeer Alex "Shondor" Birns and hurled it through the roof of his car could be the prelude to a gang war here, police said today. Birns was killed Saturday night when dynamite under the seat of his car exploded moments after he left a west side bar. The car then burst into flames. Officers who declined identification said the bombing may have been part of an underworld move to take over control of numbers operations and prostitution or could have been a settlement by one of the enemies Birns made in what was described as a long life of crime.
