Joseph N. Mr. Lequia, who was born in NV;>aunee, on August 20, 1B97, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lequia, came to Escanaba in 1900 and received his early education at the Washington, Franklin and St. Anne’s schools. He was employed as delivery boy foi the Mead Drug company after school in and later worked full time salesman and photographer. In Medical Corps le enlisted in the Medical Corps May 8, 1917, following the outbreak of World War I, was stationed at Jefferson Barracks: at Fort Sheridan, 111., where he served in the Far, Eyes and Throat department, and later at Camp M( Arthur, Waco, Tex., where he was placed in the x-ray department In Capt. Eugene Powell, M. C. He was advanced to the position of chief technician in this department and was promoted to Sergeant, Sergeant First Class and later. Hospital Sergeant. His marriage to Miss Rosanna Pepin of Ishpeming took place at Waco, and he and Mrs. Lequia lived there until lie was mustered out o| service in 1919. At that time St. Francis hospital under the supervision of Mother M. Lucy, had purchased and was installing a new, modern x-ray department and Mr. Lequia was placed in charge of thi.s department, assuming his duties on November, 10, 1919. During his many years in the field ot x-ray technician, Mr. Lequia has» seen much advancement in equipment, from the old coil type machines to the present day shock proof equipment of higher voltages and he is looking forward to the still greater improvements which will comc after the war. Family Group Mr and Mrs. Lequia have lived in Escanaba at 4 17 South Twelfth street for 25 years. They have eight children, including an adopt- ed daughter, Mrs. Steve Rabideau, of Bay City. Two sons are now in the service, CpI. Paid Lequia who is with the Air Force in England; and Francis J Lequia, Ph. M. 2 c, a registered nurse, who is serving al the Navy Hospital at Portsmouth, Va. Another son, Richard Lequia, who held the rank o! Sergeant, recently received a medical discharge from the service and is now with hi.s family 111 California.
