Ball Player Is Struck By Ball; Death Is Result Charlfes Morrow, 22, Of Newport, Killed In Game Near Wampum Last Night STRUCK OVER HEART BY “FOULED” BALL Morrow Was Catcher For Newport Team; Dies In Auto On Way To Doctor i i j ! j Struck over the heart by a foul tip from the bat of a Glenkirk team player, Charles H. Morrow, aged 22, of Newport, catcher for the Newport team, last night, during a game between the Glenkirk and j Newport teams, remarked as he returned the ball to the pitcher, that he “got that one in the ribs”, then fell over and was dead before the j machine in which lie was being conveyed to a physician, could reach its 1 destination. Accident About 8 O'clock The unusual accident occured about eight o’clock last night on the Newport baseball field. Glen­ kirk team was at bat, Clair McKim being the particular batsman at the time. Joe Newton, twirler for the Newport team, served up a fast ball to McKim, who struck at it. I The ball glanced off the bat to the rear of the batter, being a foul and striking Morrowr just over the heart. Mr. Morrow wras born May 19, 1905, at Newport, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morrow. He was employed as an electrician at the tube plant in Ellwood City. He was j a member of the Masonic lodge in ! Ellwood City and the Newr Castle ; Consistory. He was well and favorably known in a wide circle of friends. He leaves his parents and one sister Gladys. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 18, at 2 p. in., from his home in Newport, in charge of the Masonic lodge of Ellwood City. Rev. J. Greer Bingham of the Wampum Presbyterian church will officiate. Burial will be made in Clinton cemetery. j | | j | i *
