Herman Herman Stalvey fulfilled a dream this week when the mortgage to his 10 - acre piece of property on King's Highway Highway went up in smoke. For Rev. Stalvey, It was another sign that he made the right decision back In 1968 when he decided to pursue pursue "the Lord's work." It was 1970 when Stalvey began revival revival meetings for - Truth. and Life, Inc., the mlnistery he founded in 1968. Those first meetings were held in a" tent nn a niere nf nmnwtv alone v South U.S. 1. His followers were most ly youthful. Many were drug addicts who found guidance in Stalvey's evangelistic evangelistic delivery. In 1972, Stalvey purchased the 10 acres on King's Highway (he considers considers the name of the road prophetic), and construction was started on the Temple of Truth church on the land in 1974. "We started building as we could afford it - 1 couldn't spend all the promises," Stalvey said with a wry smile. Then recently, disaster struck. The loan on the property was called In and Stalvey needed $8,000 Immediately or the land would be lost. A parishioner, hearing of the church plight, loaned Rev. Stalvey the money - "lnterest free, pay me what you can, when you can," Rev. Stalvey noted. And Wednesday, Rev. Stalvey wore a big grin as he touched a burning matel) to the mortgage on the property. The Temple of Truth Isn't completed completed yet and meetings are being held currently In a building north of the Pippin Tractor Company on Old U.S. 1, "But we're working fust as fast as we can on this building' Rev. Stalvey said. "And we've come a long way since I started eight years ago with $3 in my pocket and a calling from the Lord."
