The sheriff s reports state that the boys, who live with their mother, Jean Vance, in a trailer on County Highway SN near Holmen, had been left alone during the afternoon. Sometime before 4 p.m., Bryce took out a loaded 22-cali- ber pistol in a holster and gave it to DuWayne. When DuWayne removed the gun from its hols- ter, the pistol discharged. Two neighbors, Joe Eckert and Juanita Matiak, both R. 2, Onalaska, took the boys to the ........ . hospital, obtaining a county traffic police escort on the way.
