Robert Bush Smrther Jr. DALLAS - Robert Bush Smither Jr., was born on April 19, 1937, in Huntsville, Texas, and died on July 15, 1997, in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Jackson Smither; his son, Robert Bush Smither El of Dalhart; his daughter, Sallie Smither Grotty and son-in-law, Mark Grotty of Dallas; his son, John Jackson Smither and daughter-in-law Patricia Abel Smither of Houston; his daughter, Mary Kate Smither of Dallas; his granddaughter, Kate Gaston Grotty of Dallas; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Stephanie Smither of Houston, and Wilbur and Martha Smither of Dallas; his aunts Mary Virginia Virginia Smither of Huntsville and Norma Henderson of Houston; and bis wife's family Sallie Bell and Nowell Loop and Gertrude Gaston of Dallas. He was preceded preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruth Smither of Huntsville. Bob was proud of his Huntsville heritage, where he was raised and his family has lived for generations. generations. He attended the Citadel Military Military College in Charleston, South Carolina, and received bis BA. degree from The University .of Texas at Austin and a commission commission in the Army. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. fraternity. Following his graduation^ he served as a military police officer in tiie army. He began a career in banking at First National Bank in Dallas and received a diploma from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. In 1968 he and his family moved to Gatveston, Texas, where he was associated with University National Bank, which he served as president and then as a principal principal owner until 1992. In Galveston, Bob served as president of the Trinity Episcopal School Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Galveston Galveston Artillery Club, the Bob Smith Yacht Club, the Rotary Club and Trinity Episcopal Church, where he served as. Treasurer Treasurer of the Vestry. In 1992, Bob and his family returned returned to Dallas, where he was a member of the Park City Club and St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. Services will be held at St. Matthew's Cathedral, 5100 Ross Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 1997, the Reverend Manton Tracy officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
