R-10 The Salina Journal Wedneiday. June f, 19TO Half a Sphinx Interpretive dance will be one of the roving acts performed by Paula Vandenberg White. She and her husband, musician L. Keith White, appear under the name of Sphinx. The Dixie Six, complete with a vintage fire truck, will appear Saturday as one of the roving acts at the festival. Roving acts a major feature of festival Not all the entertainment at the Smoky Hill River Festival will be at the Gazebo. Roving entertainers will stroll around Oakdale Park during the three day event. In (act, one group of performers will even ride around the park. If you see a bright red, 1927 Chevrolet fire engine circling the Festival (Saturday only), it can only be the "Dixie Six," musicians from Salina Musicians Union Local 207 who play .dixieland melodies from the back of the firewagon. The group was organized about 15 years ago by bass player Bob Lindh, Marquette, to play in a parade for the Marquette Celebration. The antique fire wagon is courtesy of the Marquette volunteer volunteer fire department. The original members were Lindh, , Roger Thorstenberg, Lindsborg, Earl Van Cleef, Salina, and Bill Robinson, Salina. Salina. They are still with the group, along with additions Darrel Taylor, McPherson, McPherson, and Jack Royer, Abilene. Wayne Nelson, Marquette is their volunteer driver. They are sponsored by Branns Furniture Furniture of Salina. Another roving entertainer is Paula Vandenberg White, a solo interpretive dancer, ballet-trained and experienced in free form sound interpretation. With her husband L. Keith White, a composer and musician, the pair perform together as Sphinx. Also entertaining on the grounds will be Richard Elmore, known as Professor Gizmo, the one-man band, and Hokum W. Jeebs, billed as an eccentric musician musician vaudeville player reincarnated. Mime Musica will be there — a talented talented couple performing mime and music. Max Armstrong, the magician who does sleight of hand tricks, and Angle Doyen, a fine ventriloquist, will delight old and young, alike. Authentic Scottish dances will be performed performed on the park grounds by bagpiper Jim Lindsey and his four highland fling dancers. There is folk music with the River Rats, singers and instrumentalists. And for the youngsters, Music Theater of Wichita is supplying costumes of the Cookie Monster, Little Wendy, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore, which will be donned by performers performers from the Salina Community Theatre Players Company. ravel ftps Ann Greene Q.
