It was Yeaton, Dowel I and Pomi/e Pitch Well in Babe Ruth Games The American League race drew tighter, and the National League lead was expanded for the Bluebirds as they and the Red Sox posted Babe Ruth League wins at Riverside Park yesterday.... The Red Sox beat the Badgers 6 -2 to close within one game of the first-place Orioles who didn't play, and the Bluebirds defeated the Pirates 4 -0. The Redlegs lost 15-7 to the Senators and trail the Bluebirds by two games. The White Sox beat the Tigers , 6 -2 and the Giants won over the Colts 8-7 in Little League. Pitching was good for all three winning Babe Ruth League teams as the Senators' Ed Yeaton threw a three-hitter at the Redlegs, Dowell pitched a two-hitter for the Red Sox and Jeff Pomije had a six-hit shutout over the Pirates. Don Pfeiffer, Yeaton and Rick Lemke each got three hits for the Senators. The Senators .needed an eight-run sixth inning to break the game open after it had been tied 7-7 since the third, Howard Parke and Black got the two Badger hits off Dowell while the Red Sox were totaling 11 base hits including triples by Dowell and Steve TeBeau. The winners scored four times in the first inning. The Bluebirds scored twice in the first inning and once in the second and third to boost their record to 7-2. Roger Reed led the winners with three hits including two doubles. The Giants managed their first Little League win when- they scored the winning run in the fifth.
