He was 83 years of age. He was born in , Alsace township. He attended the public schools of that place" and after leaving school he conducted a large farm - for his father. ; Later he learned the . carpenter trade and then secured employment at the P. & R., where he worked forsome time. He later went into the contracting business "for himself. himself. October 14th, 1862, he enlisted enlisted in Company K., 167th Regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers. After serv. ing nine months, he was discharged, but re - enlisted in Co. H., 67th regiment. regiment. He took part in many important important battles. He was married, January 30th, 1864 to Catharine Eck, who preceded preceded him in death a year ago. From 1886 to 1887 he served as tax collector collector for the 13th ward. In 1894, he was elected prison inspector, which office he held for three years and for many years he served as a Republican ward chairman; For the past twenty years he lived retired. Deceased was' a charter member of St. Stephen's Reformed Church. There survives, one daughter, Susan, wife of Calvin F. Willhelm, of Reading, Reading, one sister, Mrs. Elmira Buskirk, Pricetown.
