Still Have Hollywood Uses There Is a strange, unnamed fraternity in Hollywood. It. draws it membership from the roster of important players during the early days of the Silent Era. No dues are paid and never is a meeting called yet these old timers aim-ays seem to know what ' the others are doing. Quite a few of these fellows who watched the film industrv crawl out of its swaddling clothes once clowned across the silent screen as Keystone Kops. One of them is Hank Mann. For 31 years, Mann has been in the motion picture business. Until recently, he filled niches of varying size as an actor. Now he is a makeup artist, working at Warner Bros, studio mhere his first assignment mas to attend Jack Carson, Jane Wyman and Irene Manning, co-stars of "Make Your Own Bed." Edgar (Slow Burn) Kennedy Is at RKO. chiefly doing short subjects. And m-hen he's not on the lot, generally he's doing a show for the service men. Universal boasts at least three Of the old-timers Earl Kenton, a producer -director, and Eddie Cline and Charles Lamont, mho wield megaphones. Chester Conklln, who is the referee in the frog jumping contest shown in "The Adventures of Mark Tmain," is now bucking the extra list, as is Snub pollard, one of the most famous of the old Keystone Kops. Blanche Payson once a co medienne often ca.st as a doml- STAGE PLAYS neering wife manages an apartment house in Hollywood, and occasionally get a bit part in pictures. Billy Gilbert 'not the mous-tached heavy-set comedian of the same namei is on Republic's payroll as a property man, and Slim Summen-ille frequently provides comedy relief as a feature player. Al St John has discarded a cop s uniform but still m-orks before the cameras. He currently is doing Westerns as a bearded corn-boy. Dorothy Darling is reliving her fame through her blonde daughter, Jean Darling, who has already met with stage success in the East. Remember Jean when she was the darling of the "Our Gang" comedies a dozen years or more ago? The fraternity's ranks are thinning, but it still gets along, in Hollywood. , .
