Continued Suggestions on the Susquehanna River front - A RIVER FRONT SUGGESTION. Continued from first...
A RIVER FRONT SUGGESTION. Continued from first page. thousands of tons of refuse can be secured. As to how to do it, lust a word at this time. Our city assessors have just completed their work, and ap proximately the total valuation of Harrisburg is about ,$26,000,000. Our present city debt, including the city and water debt, is $1,000,000. Under the laws of the Commonwealth, and by a vote of the people of Harrisburg, 1he city could borrow over $S00,000. This would mean an additional tax of about one mill for a few years. Think of it one mill increase in your taxes for the improvements that are. suggested, including a city hall, a water supply without sewage, paved streets and more parks. Of course. the croaker will discourage the idea, but the people of Harrisburg are aroused and the Councils need .only submit to them the proposition for an increase of the debt and they will respond. Future generations will rise to call us blessed.
