SUCCESSFUL TRIAL TODAY Wright Bros., of Dayton, Ohio, Have Success. NORFOLK, VA., DISPATCH. Flying Machine Is Tested In North Carolina and Goes Three Miles. Special to News - Democrat Norfolk, Va., Dec. 18 A successful trial of a flying machine at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, was made today by Wilbur and Orville Wright, of Dayton, Ohio. The machine flew three miles in the face of a wind which registered twenty - one miles an hour. Its des cent at the spot selected by the navi gators was graceful. There was no baloon attachment. It was driven by a small engine. Wright Bros, are the sons of Bishop M. Wright, of Dayton. Ohio, who fre quently visits this city, being connect ed with the United Brethren Publish ing estabishment and a bishop in the U. B. church. Both of the young men have visited Huntington within the the last few months. Wilbur Wright has made several inventions, among them being a printing press. In re cent years they have made a special ty of bicycles and automobiles. It is known among acquaintances In this city that they were testing a flying machine and a few months ago they went to the south to make trials. though nothing was made public con cerning the result of the trial. The family formerly lived in Richmond, this state, Wilbur Wright being agrad uate of the high school at that place. Orville Wright was a student of the Dayton high school, though he never graduated.
