EVELYN DOTSON BURNETTE KENANSVTLLE, NC - After several years of declining health, Evelyn Dotson Burnette, 86, of Kenansville and Lake Ju-naluska, Ju-naluska, Ju-naluska, died peacefully on Monday, 4 June 2012, surround by her loving family and care givers. Evelyn was bom in Canton Canton on 9 September 1925, one of three children and the only daughter of Marvin Marvin Wayne Dotson and Zennie Elizabeth Westmoreland Westmoreland Dotson. Through her father, she was related related to the Evans, Fincher and related families, and through her mother, she was related to the Queen, Morrow, Love and related families, all of Haywood County. As a very young girl, the family lived briefly in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Tennessee, but returned to Haywood Haywood County when her father joined Champion Paper Company in Canton. Canton. Evelyn graduated from Clyde High School, where she lettered in basketball. She also graduated from Blantons Business College College in Asheville, where she earned an executive secretary degree. She worked at Hajoca Corporation Corporation in Asheville. Evelyn was blessed with physical beauty and musical talent talent She taught herself to play the piano by ear, and enjoyed entertaining the residents at Canton Nursing Home. Evelyn wrote the lyrics and melody melody for over 400 religious and country and western songs. A former model, she had a keen knowledge of fine jewelry, and was renowned for her taste in ladies fashion. Evelyn lived at Lake Junaluska until the death of her husband and her own health began to decline, when she moved to live with her daughter in Kenansville. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Lawrence Aster Dotson, and her husband, Joseph Edwin Burnette. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Elizabeth Burnette Ingram and husband, Charles, of Kenansville; an son, Richard Richard Wayne Burnette and wife Betty; granddaughter Kristen Burnette Seelig and husband Sam; granddaughter granddaughter Megan Burnette; Burnette; great-granddaughter, great-granddaughter, great-granddaughter, great-granddaughter, Madison Seelig, and great-grandson, great-grandson, great-grandson, Mason Seelig, all of Etowah. Evelyn also is survived by her brother, Charles Loyal Dotson (who she adored), wife Jean, and son Stephen, of Lake Junaluska; Junaluska; special sister-in-law, sister-in-law, sister-in-law, sister-in-law, sister-in-law, Anna Jean Burnette Chambers, of Canton; and special life-long life-long life-long friend, Alaska Holland Presley, of Maggie Valley. Other survivors include step-daughter, step-daughter, step-daughter, Carolyn Burnette Shaffer, of Peru, Indiana; step-daughter, step-daughter, step-daughter, Margaret Burnette Taylor, and husband, Richard, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Tennessee; stepgrandson, Mar-low Mar-low Mar-low (Marty) Murphy, of Knoxville; step-grandson, step-grandson, step-grandson, Thomas Edwin (Tommy) Murphy, of Canton; five step-great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-greatgrandchild. step-great-greatgrandchild. step-great-greatgrandchild. step-great-greatgrandchild. step-great-greatgrandchild. step-great-greatgrandchild. Evelyns family expressed expressed thanks to her physician, Dr. Corazon Ngo, and her staff, Alice Ross and Janet Chambers, and the nurses and staff at Vidant Duplin Hospital Hospital in Kenansville, for the loving care they provided during her illnesses. Special Special thanks go to Elaine Larson and Muriel Herring Herring Hall, of Carolina East Home Care and Hospice, also of Kenansville, for the tender care they provided during Evelyns final days. The most special thanks is due to Evelyns care giver, Mavis Jones Bradshaw, of Warsaw, for helping to make her last two years as enjoyable as possible. Evelyn was a long-time long-time long-time member of Clyde Central Central United Methodist Church, located at 410 Charles Street, in Clyde, NC. Visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, 9 June 2012 at 10:00 AM., followed by a memorial service in the Sanctuary at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow immediately immediately in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cemetery, located on Pleasant Hill Road in Clyde. While living in Kenansville, Kenansville, Evelyn attended attended Grove Presbyterian Church, located at 611 South Main Street. A memorial service will be held in the Sanctuary on Monday, 18 June 2012, at 7:00 PM., immediately followed followed by visitation in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, Evelyn requested that friends make donations to your local hospice organization of favorite charily.
