Mrs. at Malta Pioneer ( A P ) Special i The Dally News MALTA, Jan. 21. -- Funeral services for George R. Smith, of Malta, better known to many pioneers as "Indian John," were held Sunday afternoon from the Malta United Brethren church, at one thirty. Floral tributes from many friends surrounded the bier. The Malta male quartet sang, and the Rev. W. Munger gave the funeral address. Pall bearers were F. W. Hall, L. Edwards, J. F. Kilduff, Faye Stine, Ben Schuster, and Grover Waite. George R. Smith was born, at Triplet, Missouri, May 10, 1864, going in youth to Texas, coming to Montana with cattle in one of the big drives from Tjexas. Working south of the Missouri until coming to the Malta territory in 1893 and working as fore" man. for Senator Jno. Soirvant. Later he acquired property near Freewater, north of Malta, going into the cattle and farming business for himself. HB was married in 1901. He is survived toy his wife and seven children, all living. 'He had been prominent in political affairs, and had been one of the successful exponents of diversified farming in Phillips county. He died Thursday, January 17, at his home at bemg overtaken by a heart attack, from which trouble he had been suffering for some time. Interment was in the Malta cemetery. Wausau
