MTJBDEBEB STILL UNKNOWN. Ho Effort Yet Mads To Arrest ths Man Who Billed Tom Baker. Manchester, Ky, June 12. Special. An oppressive quiet still bangs over the town of Manchester. The enormity of the offense committed by the shooting down of a prisoner under: the protecting protecting arm of the State Is realised by the citizens. The Whites and Howards are keeping well together in town. Time was when the Bakers would sally Into Manchester and blase away Indiscrim inately, but such a movement"!tew would mean the wiping out of the tec. tion. The Whites and Howards sre well armed. They are disciplined, and own the only brick house In Manchester that could give protection. Despite the fact that the evidence clearly shows that the shot that killed Tom Baker waa . fired from Sheriff White's house, there are some Who claim that Baker was accidentally killed by one of the soldiers. This, however. Is too flimsy & story to be credited by snyone who knows anything of tbe real circumstances of the case. Sunday was passed without demon stration of sny kind. Out of morbid curiosity nearly everyone In Manchester visited the spot in the courthouse .yard where Tom. Baker felL Tbe spot Is marked by a large splotch of blood, now almost washed away by the rain. It is said that Saturday night Circuit Judge H. C Eversole attempted to pre vail upon Special Judge A. King Coo It to adjourn court. The reason assigned was that the Bakers and Whites ara mixed up In a number of cases on the; docket, and the court sessions might . draw these men together. Judge Cook must have declined, however, for court was held to-day, to-day, to-day, and to-morrow to-morrow to-morrow Frank Fisher is down for trial for the murder OE wins rmiyub ami ac ..... . . gerous feature of existing conditions. The Phllpots seem drifting toward aa alliance with the Bakers, and as ths . family li one of the largest In this1 section of the county such a combine- combine- ' tion would bode no good to the other . side. f A story was sent from London last night to the effect that Beverly White and others bad been placed un der arrest. This was a fake, no arrests . having been made, nor In all probability probability will any be made. There Is stilt no proof of anyone's guilt and, though several are suspected, law-abiding law-abiding law-abiding cltlsens cltlsens sre refraining from expressing aa ' opinion in order to steer ciear 01 we bloody controversy.
