Dedicated to the Progress And Growth of Central Utah Page 40-THE HERALD, Provo, Utah JThursday, December 16,1971 Bit of Utah Valley at Pasadena Utah Valley residents will have a special reason for watching the annual Tournament of Roses Parade this New Year's Day. American Fork High School Marching Band will be Utah's official entry in the internationally-acclaimed event, representing the state as one of 20 parade musical units. Charles K. (Russ) Fadely is band director. Utah Valley is noted for its fine high school bands. The American Fork band's performance in the New Year classic climaxes more than a year of effort. The entire community has united to assist in the project, with students, school officials, band parents and interested citizens working together to earn money to finance the trip. Some 95 band members and 15 members of the color guard will be in the marching unit on New Year's Day. More than $8,000 has been raised to cover travel expenses for the group while in Southern California. While in th6 area for the Tournament Tournament of Roses Parade, the American Fork Band will also ap- pear in concert and will visit Disneyland, parading down Main Street at the popular recreation resort, as well as promoting Utah and American Fork in other appearances appearances scheduled in connection with the New Year's Day event. Although many people of the community have worked to bring the dream to culmination, much of the credit for the selection of the. local band for the Tournament of Roses appearance must go to Ora H. Chipman, an officer in the National Woolgrowers Auxiliary, who personally personally contacted parade officials and brought the American Fork High School Band to the attention of the selection committee as applications applications of more than 200 musical organizations were considered. The Herald joins with the residents of Utah and Utah Valley in commending the band members for their efforts in preparing for' their Tournament of Roses Parade appearance appearance by honest effort in both raising funds for the project and in endless hours of preparation.
