John Scherer - reunion - of my troublesome tasks when cooking or baking,...
of my troublesome tasks when cooking or baking, I was happy to read about crushing walnuts with a rolling pin, with the nuts happily between wax paper. I started to try it, but at the last moment, I put the nuts in one of thoe little plastic bags and, hot dogl It worked just grand, and the walnuts I didn't need could be left in the bag, for the next time. Might as well add another fern while I'm at it and 1 tell the "no - rolling • pin" group, that a bottle will work just as well. Julie Crawford I hope all you new brides read Julie's advice on using a bottle (such as a vinegar hot tie) for a rolling pin. There are so many things to buy for the kitchen when you first set up housekeeping, why not "make do" for the items you don't use too often — such as a rolling pin? • Heloise * * * Dear Retoise: Anyone can enjoy the luxury of shoes and bags to match dresses and suits at a ridi culously small cost. At the end of the summer, aome stores sell their summer stock of good quality white and pastel fabric shoes (sometimes •oiled) for as little as two dol lars, and purses for as little as one dollar. I buy several pairs of these •hoes and a fabric - covered purse for each pair, and keep them on hand. When I have a new dress or auit that I want to match, I dye a pair of shoes and a bag with one of the new shoe cos netics. B. B. Dear HeWse: If you like guacamole or avocado avocado salads and find your avocados avocados are still too hard to mash easily with a fork, grab your cheese grater and grate away. The avocado becomes soft enough enough to work with easily. Takes less time than chopping and you have a choice of using the large or small side of the grater. Suzanne Nobel * * *
