Maoney, M a t e o died 9 San Interment a El and Mabe!.; a Harold 11 and 76, a and today San Yvor Winters Dies at 67 STANFORD -- Yvor Winters, Stanford's internationally distinguished distinguished poet and critic, died late Thursday afternoon at Palo Alto-Stanford Hospital. He was 67 years old last 17. Death was attributed to cancer. He had been hospitalized about a week. His career at Stanford, which began as an English instructor n 1928, spanned 40 years. General fame was long in coming him, but since 1960 he received three major poetry awards: Brandeis University's Creative Arts Award, Yale's Bollingen Prize in 1961, and the University of Chicago's Harriet Monroe Prize in 1962. In 1961 he was appointed to the endowed Albert Guerard professorship of literature at Stanford. In the winter of the same year, the student-editec literary magazine "Sequoia' devoted an entire issue to him. His poetry and literary criticism criticism was first known and appreciated appreciated by an international intellectual intellectual coterie. His works now have been translated and published in Japanese, French German and Italian literary journals. His "C o 11 e c Poems" were ssued in 1952 and now are available in paperback. He also made a long-play recording, recording, reading his own verses.
