He has been tangling with the problem of translating French idiom, into equivalent English. In his new picture with Jean Gabin he wanted his characters, ordinary everyday French folks, to talk plain everyday everyday language. -*• "But how to make them talk French in English? English? vin French we have an expression, 'unscrew your billiard.' What, would that mean to an English English audience? I find your expression for that is 'kick the bucket.'
