Defendants Charged W'th Abusing , Glen Mill* Lad Arraigned To-day. More than passing interest is attached attached to the hearing this afternoon at .3, o'.plock' before Justice of: the Peace F. F Williamson of Eugene Strohm and Thomas Reese, connected with the Boys' House of Refuge at Glen Mills. this county. There has been much saic and much printed in reference to.the alleged cruel treatment of the boys in this institution. Strohm and Reese were arrested on warrants charging; them with assault -and battery. The prosecutor is George Proud, of 2635 South Juniper street, Philadelphia, who charges that his son, George Proud, JK, fwhile an inmate of the institution was badly treated. 'The father charges the two attendants used brutal treatment treatment which caused his son to become lame. Dr. McCafferty who has been in the limelight for several days owing to the public allegations'that tha boys at th^ House of Refuge were cruelly treated, is expected to be the important important witness to be heard b»fore Justice Justice Williamson. Dr. McCafferty who •v..\s the resident'physician at the Glen Mills School resigned on Thursday last and his testimony at a. hearing today is expected to divulge some startling incidents. incidents. The defendants are under J300 bail each, the security being entered by Col. Joseph Hawley, of Media, who Is a member of the Board of Managers of the school. Superintendent F. H. Nlbecker says that Strohm and Reese will both deny that they ever beat or otherwise mal-treated mal-treated young Proud. He says that Dr. Charles H. Schoff, of Media, and Dr. W. Ertell Lee, of 905 'Pine street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, will also testify, if called, that they examined the lad and that they found no evidence of any recent injury. I ^
