SAHS Cadets Hold Annual Military Ball The 0. S. Army RQTC (Junior Division) of Sault Area High School was host at its seventh annual Military Ball Saturday evening at the SAHS cafeteria and commons. Senior Army Instructor Lt. Col. Ronald S. Brockvay and Sirs. Brockway and Asst.~Army Instructor 1st Sgt. Calvin M. Watson and Mrs. Watson \vere sponsors of the event. Guests were Superintendent of Schools *nd Mrs. William A. Poppink, SAHS Principal ND Mrs. Sam Dubow, SAHS Asst. Principal and Mrs. Charles W. Flower, Capt. of the Port and Coast Guard Unit Comdr. Kobert J. Bloxsom and Mrs. Blossom, fllaj. and Mrs. Harold P. Skamser and Capt. and Mrs. Edwin Larkin of the ROTC faculty at Lake Superior State College and Commander of the American Legion Post J. Richard Savoie and Mrs. Savoie. After a buffet dinner, cadet promotions were made, with the highest promotion going to Cadet Edward BenoiL He received the rank of cadet lieutenant colonel for his outstanding performance jn the JROTC program. Initation locally of a traditional and coloful ceremony took place when Cadet Lt. Col. Benoit was presented with an Army saber by Lt. Col. Brockway and 1st Sgt. Watson. Lt. CoL Brockway said that the saber presented to Benoit was his to retain and that the presentation of any Army saber to an outstanding cadet will continue in forthcoming years. After the presentation of the saber, Cadet 1st Sgt. Jane Kinsella, who was escorted by Benoit, received a bouquet of red, white and blue carnations. After the promotion of Roberta Eikey to the rank of cadet captain and in recognition of many other young women who were promoted, Lt. Col. Brock- wsy commented on the fact that the Sault Area High School JROTC unit is currently one of the few in the United States authorized to have girls enrolled for full participation in the program. Music for dancing during the evening was provided by the Outer Limits. News For The Record NEWBERRY _ James Wallace of McMillan was arrested over the weekend for driving while under the influence of alcohol. According to Newberry Post State Police, he was lodged overnight in th« Mackinac County Jail and was arraigned this morning in St Ignace.
