Competition Tough For Houston Orchestra Places The advanced string music class of Houston School is planning to lave auditions soon. Judges selecting the concert mistress and leader of the second violin section will be: Mrs. Wayne Tretsven, vocal music teacher at Houston; Mrs.! C. D. SKerwood, principal violinist o£ the El Paso Symphony; and Miss Dorothy Emig, principal of Houston School. Try for Places Those auditioning for the posi- ,ions will be: Beth Robertson, Carmen Ramirez, Mary Lou Wilhile, Christine Gonzales, Elizabeth Wilson, Cecilia Caracen, Elizabeth Juarez, Dick Santoscoy, Margaret Sriscoe, Mary Ellen Cantrell, Charlene Blott, Judy Schultz and Billie Jo Fellabaum. Honor Columbus The second grade gave a play to celebrate Columbus Day. The fol- owing children took part: David Tyson as Columbus; Lynn Listen as Queen Isabella; Michael Seale as fCing Ferdinand; Danny Ellis as Don Diego; Bette Scott and Marcy Tretsven as the Queen's maids; Joe Castillo, John McKelvy as the King's guards; Oscar Munoz. Eldon Howell, David Morris, Velia Perez, drick, vice president; Maureen Hen- dricfc, secretary; program chairman, Consuela Salazar; reporter Jack Dunn; sanitary chief, Ronnie ifegg; and girls' sanitary chief Doreen Hendrick. Ireefc Legend The Low SB gave a play in socia studies. The play was based on ! rrek legend. The performers were Nancy DeSantes, Rose Arellanes Maria Elena Onteverous, and Linda Strom. Others taking part wen Robert Rutan, Eddie Hawes, Dickie Pollafox, and Margaret Briscoe. The High 6 is studying the his ory of Texas. The children are en oying the activities connected will the learning. Soap carvings of the missions have been made by Ro aerta Rugate, Mike Dates an Martha Ornelas. New Experiment A new experiment is being trie' Holly Smith and Sharon Blackwell, Indians. The announcer was Etta B. Trask. The stage hands were Alice Rojas and Ruth Strong. Columbus' men on the "Santa Maria" were Mike McNellis, Bobby Armendariz, Gail Elliott and Sherry Low Morris. Aboard 'La, Pinta' On the "La Pinta" vyere Dexter Lynn, Godofredo Perez, Synette Dunn and Maureen Work. On tRe "La Nina" were Michael Rudd Ester Garcia and Magdalena Esqueda. The visiting prihcesses were Lupe Calanche, Rosa Acosta and Vlaria Murioz. The Low 5B elected club otfi- cers this week. They are: Bobby Martin, president; Doreen Hen out in During the the upper grade classes science and health period, the boys and girls hav been studying proper diet. It wa decided that each class should pla a menu for one day in the week If this menu met with the high re quirements, the cafeteria woulc prepare and serve it. Two menus have been accepted, those planned by the Low Eighth A and B. of . Glass Reports on Books Children of Room 6C at Roosevelt School are preparing to start water color work. They are also making book reports on books of their own choice. Felix Leuva of the IF led a fire drill exercise for his class. Roberto Salcido closed the doors and kept the children marching for a quick evacuation of the school.
