Section Three Lake Charles American Press SPORTS Classified THURS., AUG. 17, 1961, Lake Charles American Press Al Moreno Takes Another Title Steve Moreno added another title to his collection Wednesday night when he teamed with Marsha Landry to defeat Ken Lewis and Virginia Griffith for the senior mixed doubles crown in City tennis at High School park. The match turned into a bat- Je between Griffith and Moreno with Griffith showing up well but the overall strength of Moreno and Landry proved too much and they won, 6-2, 6-3. Marsha Landry and Cindy DeVan advanced to the semi-finals of the women's doubles with a 0-8, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Fances Harless and Valerie Stamm in a marathon contest. DeValFs strong serve and Landry's excellent net and backcourt play )roved too much for the talented larless and Stamm although the match was in doubt all the way. The men's doubles also reached the semi-final round with L. J. Armand and Jim Watson facing Glen Guillory and Bob Benton and Pete Gaskin and Whitney McCelland tangling with Carlos Perez and Richard Hough. Armand and Watson advanced with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Ray Woodall and Don Wallace. Guillory and Benton moved into the semi-final round with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Claude Seibert and Fred Pendleton. Gaskin and McClelland defeated Eddie Watkins and Bob Dupree in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 thriller in other action. The women's doubles will be played at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. while the men's matches will be at 6:30 and 8 p.m. SENIOR MIXED DOUBLES Steve Moreno and Morsha Londry defeated Ken Lewis and Virginia Griffith 6-2, 6-3. WOMEN'S DOUBLES Marsha Landry and Cindy DeVall defeated Frances Harless and Valerli Stamm, 10-8, 5-7, 6-3. MEN'S DOUBLES L. J.
