New Manager is Named For Provo By F. G. Ferre and Sons Chain A few changes are in the process of taking place at the F.G. Ferre and Sons store in Provo all 145 N. 500 W. One of the changes involves a little shuffling of the official ownership of the store and the other significant change involves the appointment of a new manager! While tied to the parent- organization, the Provo store has officially belonged to Ted Ferre, one of the sons of the operation's founder, F.G. Ferre. He acquired the store in 1968, but thesoperation of it was always considered part of the family business. Now the ownership reverts back to the parent organization which is now headed by F.G. Ferre Jr. Named as manager of the Provo store is Joe Boyer who has been with the firm for eight years, the last two following his tour of duty in the U.S. Army. Ted Ferre is retiring from the firm's formal operation and will pursue his interests in the boating industry. The F.G, Ferre and Sons operations began back in 1948. It was a three man operation, with F.G. Ferre senior. F.G. Junior, and the founder's son-in-law, Gay le Henderson. The original store was a 10 ft, by 10 ft, cubicle. Today the operation has two divisions, a wholesale business, d.b.a. Aadco and the retail business. The firms operate four retail stores and three warehouses. When asked what he attributed the success of the business, Mr. F.G. Ferre, Jr., said that it must have been hard work and a strong faith in young people. . He reported that youth is stressed in hiring and devloping employees. For instance, Mr. Boyer, the Provo store's new manager began as a warehouse stock clerk at the age of 14 years. Mr. Ferre believes that by keeping young employees the firm will keep up with the latest i{Jeas and trends. For instance, the Provo store features a speed department headed by John "Curley" Carey. This specialist stands ready to offer advice on the right kind of equipment and the. latest innovations in that specific field. Another point of marketing interest is that the firm uses women clerks to help sell what is normally considered a man oriented line of items. Some girls have been so effective that they have been by far the best salesmen on the floor. According to Mr. Ferre one girl consistantly won tire selling contest by so far it wasn't even close. He further stated that the reason he has used women on the sales staff is that it gives women customers confidence in buying*
