Harmon, whose funeral services were held last weekend, will be remembered in Provo for her love of trees and flowers, as well as for other noteworthy accomplishments. As chairman of the Provo Shade Tree Commission for about 15 years, she worked energetically to upgrade the quality of Provo City trees and bring beauty and shade to places which needed it. During periods when Provo City was planting numerous young trees along parking strips she was known to personally personally visit such areas and water seedlings to keep them growing when property owners neglected this responsibility. responsibility. Besides directing the tree program here she was keenly interested in gardening. She and her husband Appleton Jesse Harmon traditionally had a lovely vegetable garden as well as flower garden which they shared with many. Mrs. Harmon was a member of the International Shade Tree Commission and Utah State Shade Tree Commission and traveled extensively to participate in conventions. Earlier in her life she taught school, served as a nurse and Red Cross worker, and helped her husband in establishing an automobile agency. In every sense, she was a fine citizen, whose leadership and example will be missed.
